This café style Bentwood chair is very unusual as it has beautiful curved arms, rarely seen on this type of chair – it has been authenticated to be approx. 1920. It came to HOC in a very poor condition with the wood peeling away on the base and an arm missing. However, the beauty of this piece and its era shone through and our restorer lovingly brought it back to life clamping and strengthening the base as well as making an identical arm and pinning it in the original method to match the other side. A solid base was made to drop in and modern upholstery technique undertaken to create a comfy foam-based seat. The gorgeous colour from Annie Sloan paints was achieved with 2 coats sprayed evenly, as it was felt a smooth effect was needed, without the usual brush stroke texture. 2 coats of wax and buffing gave the overall sheened finish. It’s a comfy chair and would look great as a stand out piece in any room.
